Olive oil infusion
Olive Oil infusion – Oregano has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, which means that your own macerated oil can be used in the footbath, and for the after-care, to massage the oil into the skin of your feet, after the footbath. Especially recommended for athlete’s foot.
Maceration: Oregano dried leaves can be infused (macerated) in olive oil. Recipe: take an about 400ml glass container (the volume of a jam jar) with an airtight lid, and fill it with oregano dried leaves, which is about 30 grams. Then fill the glass container with olive oil, till the herbs are totally covered by the olive oil, close it, and let it infuse for 3 weeks in a sunny, warm spot on the window sill. Do not let the oil become overheated.
Another possibility is to infuse the olive oil by using a so-called slow cooker. I have used the OBH Nordica, Saveur slow cooker, 4.7 l, and used the so-called simmer position on the temperature button for some hours at a constant temperature of 65°C., eventually repeating this program during 2 following days, for about 2 hours per day.
When macerated, take a sieve and a bowl, start with filtering the oil, and let the oily herbs drain for at least 24 hours.
You can fill a 30 ml pipette bottle with your homemade maceration, and store the rest of the maceration in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator. By using the small pipette bottle it is easier to dosage the oil.
Attention: you can dilute the maceration by adding more olive oil, and when ready, adding some drops oregano essential oil.
Tea, steam bath, disinfecting air
Tea, steam bath, disinfecting air – Oregano can also be used as a tea, in cases of a flu, or a virus infection, or in a steam bath, because of its anti-septic, anti fungal, anti viral, anti-biotica properties. Also the air will be disinfected, by using a casserole, filled with water and some oregano herbs on a low temperature on the hob in the kitchen. Let it damp for a while, eventually during the entire day. Keep an eye on the amount of water and fill the casserole when needed, again, with new water and new herbs.
Dosage for a cup of tea: add 1 teaspoon of oregano herbs in a cup, bring water to the boil, and pour the hot water, but not bubbling anymore, over it. Wait about 10 minutes before drinking.. Create your own preferences in strength.
