Maceration: Lavender dried flowers can be infused (macerated) in olive oil, to be used as a body oil or lotion, a skin conditioner, a massage oil, a hand lotion, a hair mask, or hair conditioner. Recipe: take an about 400ml glass container (the volume of a jam jar) with an airtight lid, and fill it with lavender dried flowers, which is about 30 grams. Then fill the glass container with olive oil, till the herbs are totally covered by the olive oil, close it, and let it infuse for 3 weeks in a sunny, warm spot on the window sill. Do not let the oil become overheated.
Another possibility is to infuse the olive oil by using a so-called slow cooker. I have used the OBH Nordica, Saveur slow cooker, 4.7 l, and used the so-called simmer position on the temperature button for some hours at a constant temperature of 65°C., eventually repeating this program during 2 following days, for about 2 hours per day.
When macerated, take a sieve and a bowl, and start with filtering the oil, and let the oily herbs drain for at least 24 hours.
You can fill a 30 ml pipette bottle with your homemade maceration, and store the rest of the maceration in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator. By using the small pipette bottle for daily use it is easier to dosage the oil. Two drops are enough to oil your hands after washing. What is left on your hands you can be used on your face, neck and hair.
Attention: you can dilute the maceration by adding a bit more olive oil, and when ready, adding some drops of lavender essential oil.
Tea
Lavender tea can be used to relax, to support the nerves, to sleep better, to boost your appetite.
Attention! Do NOT exceed the following recommended dosage:
◉ 1-3 teaspoons of loose tea (or 3g up to 3 times) daily. If more than one herbal mixture is consumed at the same period of time, reduce the amount of tea accordingly.
◉ When herbs are used for an extended period of time, it is suggested to consume a herbal remedy with a ratio of 3 to 1. For example:
– If you choose to take it for 3 weeks, have a one-week pause.
– If it is taken for a 30-day period, have a 10-day pause.
That does not apply to herbs and fruits that have a laxative effect.
Other uses
Lavender dried herbs are used in small bags, made from cotton or jute, to lay under a pillow in the bed, or in drawers and cabinets.
