Updated: February 27, 2026

Recipe

Needed

  • A 30 ml spray bottle
  • Clean water from the kitchen tap, and if not available, use mineral water, or distilled water
  • Antibac Pharma perfume-free hand disinfect, on alcohol-based gel 85%
  • Essential oil of your choice
    • except oregano: it can irritate the sensitive skin.
  • Anti-bac wipes, easy to clean the armpits during a journey, before using your deo.

Recipe

  • advice: take a hygienically clean, used glass jar, with lid, to mix the ingredients
  • add 8 gr disinfectant gel
  • add 12 – 20 drops essential oil (do the patch test first)
  • stir this well with a tea spoon till all essential oil is dissolved in the gel
  • add 22 ml clean water
  • close the jar and stir the jar well
  • put a small funnel in the 30 ml glass bottle opening
  • fill the bottle

You can build up a stock, by filling a 400 grams, used, hygienically cleaned (marmelade) glass jar, with 13 times the amounts as offered in the recipe.

  • 13 x 8 = 104 gram disinfectant gel
  • 13 x 12 = 156 drops essential oil
  • stir this well with a spoon till all essential oil is dissolved in the geld
  • add 13 x 22 ml clean water = 286 ml
  • close the jar well, with the screw lock, and stir well
  • keep it on a cool, dark place, out of reach of children

Use

  • After washing thoroughly with soap, my own experience is that even washing several times, and even using time to let the soap “work”, does not help after stopping with a bought deodorant stick. As if the skin starts to open its pores, and is cleaning up. I experimented with a final wash with apple cider vinegar, after the soap has been washed away very well. It helps! I use it every day after cleaning the armpits.
  • when the skin is dried well, I use my own deo spray, and let it dry before dressing.
  • Close the deodorant with the top cap.
  • Caution: before using essential oils do the patch test.

How to prevent, or solve, the problem of smelly armpits

  • Wash daily with soap: A good place to start is washing the armpits daily with soap. Tip: use a loofah1 or a washcloth2. [Finish the washing with pure, undiluted apple cider vinegar. I experimented with it, when noticing that after stopping to use a normal deodorant, there came more sweat, as if the pores were opening, and cleaning up. It helped. My skin does not get irritated. Now the appel cider vinegar (pure) is a permanent part of the daily ritual. If you want to experiment with it: stop using when the skin gets irritated. [Admin: Cretan-Garden]
    • Regularly showering after strenuous activities like working out or playing sports gets rid of the bacteria and sweat that cause odors.
    • When travelling: take your homemade deodorant spray bottle and the anti-bac wipes with you (more in the recipes).
  • Wear loose-fitting, breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, and moisture-wicking blends: This is especially important if you sweat a lot. These will allow your body to stay cooler better than constricting clothes made from non-breathable fabrics.
  • Remove hair: A 2015 studyTrusted Source found that shaving or waxing the armpits significantly reduced armpit odor. This is because cleaning is more effective on shaved or waxed skin.
  • Relieving stress: Stress may cause sweat glands to produce sweat, so managing stress and anxiety might help you modulate your stress reaction and minimize your physiological sweat response.
